Hotel Kimpton Main Frankfurt, Frankfurt | Germany
With the Kimpton Main Frankfurt, the first house of the Kimpton lifestyle brand was opened in Germany in the spring of 2025. The hotel is located in the FOUR district in Frankfurt's city centre and links the design-oriented, signature style with the architectural and cultural history of the site.
The FOUR Frankfurt complex was implemented according to the designs of UNStudio by ARGE UNS + HPP and incorporates four high-rise buildings for mixed use in the residential, office, retail and catering sectors. The hotel is situated in the base of Tower 3 in Junghofstraße. The headquarters of Deutsche Bank was previously located in the same position in the 1950s. The listed facades were retained and the historic foyer, original doors and banisters were secured before the dismantling and then reintegrated in the new building. The hotel has 155 rooms and suites with floor spaces of 22 to 55 sqm. The room concepts connect workspaces, lounge areas and sleeping areas in clearly structured floor plans and consistently pick up the creative theme of the building in terms of materials and colour. From a culinary perspective, several independent concepts characterise the house: the MAY bar as a social meeting point, the brasserie restaurant ANNI as well as the rooftop restaurant LAZULI.
The London studio Waldo Works is responsible for the interior design under the leadership of Tom Bartlett. The design concept references the Bauhaus movement and the history of Frankfurt. Clear, reduced shapes and geometric motifs are combined with a warm colour palette. Materials such as chrome, glass and marble are in dialogue with velvet, deep green and red marble as well as dark mahogany. Printed tiles, coloured glass partitions and custom-made fittings characterise the public areas. The electrical installation is a precisely recorded part of the design concept in the Kimpton Main Frankfurt. The iconic switch range LS 990 from JUNG is used including technical solutions such as LS 990 with USB sockets or room thermostats. The clear, rectangular styling of the LS range blends ideally into the Bauhaus-inspired interior. The decisive design element is the colour palette of Les Couleurs® Le Corbusier®, which is used in different ways throughout the hotel. It is a special feature that all the switches, sockets and operating elements in the lobby, bar, restaurant and guest rooms always create a harmonious colour scheme with their respective base. The electrical equipment consistently follows the tone-in-tone principle, integrated in natural stone, textile wall panels or customised fittings. It can particularly be seen in the seating nooks and bench areas, such as the restaurant, how naturally technology can be integrated in the furniture. The multi-gang strips with USB sockets enable the guests to conveniently charge their smartphones, tablets or laptops directly in their seats. Their colouring consistently follows the respective surroundings: a light ultramarine blue with a slight hint of grey (outremer pâle) in the reception area, a warm, calm white (blanc) in bright wall zones, an understated light grey (gris clair 31) on natural stone, a velvety black with warm undertones (noir d’ivoire) in the sumptuous breakfast room. The colour concept is continued in the guest rooms with vibrant shades including a warm, burnt sienna tone (terre sienne brûlée), a soft, muted English green (vert anglais pâle) and a dark ultramarine blue (bleu outremer foncé). The switch and socket elements pick up the wall and furniture colours precisely. In combination with mahogany, velvet and printed textiles, there is a harmonious interplay of materiality, colour and function - fully in tune with the Bauhaus idea of thinking of design and technology as one unit.
