Phoenixwerk, Dortmund | Germany
This former steel production site, active up until just a few years ago, has been home to well-lit office spaces in an authentic industrial style since 2019. The historic Phoenix West area of Dortmund is the setting for a new ensemble of offices, nestled between the Hochofen, the Phoenix Halle and lots of green space. Creating an attractive office culture on a re-purposed historical site. The concept comes from Scheffler Helbich Architekten, who moved their own Dortmund office to the Phoenixwerk once the build – a combination of Ruhrpott romanticism and innovative building culture – was complete.
The red clinker facade of this new build takes inspiration from the history of the Phoenix Halle, while huge window facades break up the building’s sheer solidity and bathe the offices in daylight. It's also possible to enjoy the disused industrial surroundings from open terraces. The design of the interior is bright, spacious and a masterpiece of architectural thinking: Black staircases made of brushed steel lend structure to the transparently designed spaces. Colour-balanced elements like door and window frames as well as handrails add to this effect.
Companion in matching colour: The A creation switch design by JUNG in matt anthracite matches the dark steel elements tone-in-tone, while it differs ever so slightly in colour and material. The temperature of the indoor spaces can be controlled quickly and intuitively using F 50 push-button sensors. The whole property is equipped with the smart KNX system by JUNG. The architects place great value on an economical and ecological operation mode.
