House in a pine forest, Vilnius | Lithuania

Situated in a pine forest, the architecture, interior design and landscape became an integrated concept in this house. Through the design by Culdo Studio, the traditional construction of the Aukštaitija region was taken up and its characteristic elements were translated into contemporary styling.

The house extends over three floors with clearly separated functions. While the basement and ground floor are used for community living, the receiving of guests and daily family life, the first floor forms a peaceful refuge for the occupants. Natural materials and a conservative colour palette characterise the atmosphere. Walls made from light clay plaster with straw inlay, travertine in the bathrooms, customised fittings and untreated shelves from solid oak create a close link with the surrounding landscape. The materials are used across all the floors and thus ensure a calm, harmonious appearance. Clear architectural lines meet handmade ceramic objects, selected design classics and sculptural lamps. In the centre of the living area, a striking staircase sets a spatial accent and shapes the inner organisation of the house. Large glass panels bring the forest into the rooms and let light, weather and seasons become a part of life. The switches and sockets from JUNG thus blend naturally into the material and colour concept. The LS 990 range is used in matt snow white and matt graphite black as well as in the Les Couleurs® Le Corbusier shade of ombre naturelle moyenne. They emphasise the tranquil design without coming to the forefront.
