House in Vilnius | Lithuania

A single-storey house has emerged on the outskirts of Vilnius, which is a reinterpretation of current housing types due to its precise geometric setting.

The starting point of the design is a triangular ground plan which determines the spatial organisation as well as the architectural impression of the building. The ground plan geometry can clearly be read in the building structure. The house has been designed as a flat structure with a pronounced horizontal orientation and refers to the topography as well as the number of trees on the property. The flat roof rises slightly southwards so that functional requirements can be met such as drainage. A linear skylight accompanies the central access point and brings daylight into the depths of the building. The facades follow a logic which is based on usage and orientation. The house appears largely closed on the north side. A monolithic concrete surface forms a clear boundary to the outdoor space and guarantees privacy. The recessed entrance area marks the access point without granting any glimpses into the interior. On the southwestern and eastern side, the building opens up to the landscape. Large glass panels with dark, anodised aluminium frames connect the indoor spaces with the garden and ensure a consistent supply of daylight. The consciously reduced material palette of concrete, glass and metal supports the clarity of the architectural idea. This approach continues inside the house. The rooms are characterised by clear lines, controlled proportions and only a few materials. The basic triangular shape controls the routing and organises a sequence of different rooms.

The clear styling of the LS switch range supports the design concept. The switches and sockets from the LS 990 range in white are inserted precisely but discretely into the architectural environment.
