SCA Office, Tallinn | Estonia
In the Rotermann Quarter in Tallinn, a historic section of a building has been converted into an office for the forestry company SCA. The design by PIN Arhitektid combines the existing building structure with a clearly organised working environment and uses the spatial conditions to create an understated, functional interior design.
The layout follows a circular plan, arranging workstations, meeting rooms and ancillary functions along the outer façade. A private lift provides direct access to the office space. Striking, triangular windows create deliberate visual links to the neighbourhood and allow daylight to penetrate deep into the rooms. Transparent meeting pods and bespoke fittings organise the various work areas without compromising the open character of the office. The low ceiling height presented a particular challenge. As a design solution, the architects developed a partially open ceiling featuring continuous wooden slats. This emphasises the original ceiling height, enhances the effect of the light and lends the interiors a clear, rhythmic structure. Light-coloured surfaces, oak and exposed concrete form a minimalist palette of materials, complemented by precisely integrated lighting. All technical installations are flush-mounted within the architecture and built-in elements, deliberately taking a back seat. For the electrical installation, switches from the LS 990 series in white and light grey are used. Thanks to their clean lines and understated finishes, they blend seamlessly into the minimalist material and design concept.
