With Serra House, the architectural practice TKCA Architects has created a peaceful retreat in the heart of the bustling metropolis of Kuala Lumpur. Inspired by natural mountain ranges, the residence combines flowing forms, warm natural tones and a clear spatial layout to form a harmonious overall concept that conveys both a sense of security and openness.

A defining feature is the curved, S-shaped ceiling that runs through the central living area. It both connects and delineates two distinct areas of the house: the private living and sleeping quarters, and the communal areas comprising the kitchen, dining area and study. By doing away with traditional room dividers, fluid transitions and varied sightlines are created, giving the floor plan a spacious and lively feel. Flexibly movable panels allow the residents to adapt natural light, views and privacy to their specific needs.

As a result, the atmosphere of the house changes constantly throughout the day, lending the rooms a special dynamism. Circular details run through the entire interior as a recurring design motif – from handles and ventilation openings to cable ducts and functional storage solutions. They echo the organic design language of the architecture and create design continuity right down to the smallest detail. A restrained palette of materials, comprising sand-coloured surfaces, light wood, travertine and finely coordinated shades of beige, emphasises the tranquil feel of the interiors. Natural light and indirect lighting effectively highlight the soft textures and curved lines, creating a cosy atmosphere that is both elegant and timeless. LS 990 in the colours ivory and champagne has been used throughout the house. The different colour finishes echo the warm, natural tones of the interior and blend seamlessly into the design concept.
