Apartment for couples

The challenge with this bright apartment was in the combination of the modern building technology with simple operation. To achieve this, the JUNG KNX F40 push-buttons can be found throughout the apartment. Thanks to large operating surfaces, control of the functions is very easy. The JUNG LS 990 switch range puts the electrical installation into the scene. Just take a look! The whole one-bedroom apartment can be viewed in virtual reality (VR).

This home of a young couple is captivating with its strong colour scheme in Petrol. A virtually square entrance area initially connects to the private rooms – bedroom, bathroom and WC – while a wide passage leads to the large living and dining area designed in a loft style. The industrial character of this urban apartment is emphasised here with a smooth screed floor, and ceilings and walls in facing concrete. Two levels create zones in the ground plan. The free-standing kitchen unit mediates:
due to the height change, on one side it serves as a work surface for the open kitchen and on the other, towards the living room, as an elegant bar for a quick breakfast in the morning or an aperitif in the evening. The dining area next to the kitchen in turn offers ideal conditions for an enjoyable evening with friends and family with its large, solid, wooden table and the six iconic wishbone chairs by Hans J. Wegner. Wall cupboards in the bedroom and in the hall areas make additional storage furniture unnecessary. As a result, the generous room size can be discerned particularly impressively.

Uniform operation with KNX

All the house functions and numerous multimedia functions can be networked together and controlled centrally with the intelligent KNX building system technology. The KNX F 40 push-buttons with large surfaces can be used in 1, 2, 3 and 4-gang versions. Every surface is used as a rocker. To use them, the rockers are pressed at the top for light on/brighter or blinds up and at the bottom for light off/dimmer or blinds down. For use as scene buttons, the rockers are configured as buttons.

Every KNX push-button consists of a KNX push-button module and the corresponding cover kit. The integrated status LEDs are arranged on the mirror axis in the cover kit. With the KNX push-button module Standard, for each rocker there is only one status LED available and with the KNX push-button module Universal, there is one status LED per button. The push-button sensor Universal has comprehensive objects, for example so it can also send the temperature to the KNX system or it can be extended with a push-button extension module.

Every surface can be individually labelled with the JUNG GRAPHICTOOL. For this, the desired characteristics are simply saved in the online database and applied to the surface during the ordering process.

Living room
With the high-resolution display on the KNX visualisation through the SV server, the Smart Control 5 allows intuitive operation with the clear arrangement of the areas and functions/actions. In the areas, for example, different rooms can be selected. With the functions and actions, the individual equipment can be operated by tapping or by dragging a slider, e.g. for dimming. A clear orientation is possible due to the support of colour, for example. If the network structure has been appropriately designed, the Smart Control 5 can also be supplied with Power over Ethernet. Mounting is very simple. The supporting frame is simply fixed to a standard wall box. The automatic display brightness and the proximity sensor adapt the graphical interface to the environment.

With the Smart Gateway from Siedle, the door communication function can also be fulfilled on the device. Using the integrated loudspeaker and the microphone, you can communicate with the visitor while the picture from the camera is visible.

The KNX push-button module Universal is used to operate the basic functions. These functions could also be called as the home on the Smart Control 5.

The USB charger with type A and type C USB sockets can also be equipped with a hinged lid or with a screwless design cover.

The use of Plug & Light is very simple. The light socket, consisting of a power supply and a centre plate with slip ring contacts, is installed in the standard installation box. During a renovation of the rooms, the residents can easily replace or remove the light attachment without basic electrical knowledge. The light attachment is held by a strong magnet. Unlocking is achieved with a small release magnet that releases the light attachment. The light attachment can be rotated through 360 degrees as required.

Both Plug & Light LED floodlights and Plug & Light LED spotlights are available. Covers from other manufacturers can naturally also be used. The LED covers are dimmable and can also be produced with warm dimming on request. In this process, the colour temperature can be changed from minimum to maximum between 2,700 Kelvin and 4,000 Kelvin with simultaneous increase in brightness. The operation with the KNX rotary sensor is as expected: pressing switches lights on and off and rotating changes the brightness. Two status LEDs can be used with the centre plate with lens. The soft latching function gives the user haptic feedback when rotating.

Kitchen
With the SCHUKO® socket with USB charger with the integrated USB A port, or alternatively with an integrated USB C port, mobile end devices and batteries can be charged quickly and reliably. The JUNG Quick Charge function adapts the charging voltage to the electrical load. Sockets with combined USB A and USB C chargers are available.

The JUNG LS ZERO switch range is installed flush in the kitchen island and thus creates a smooth transition between socket and surface. The material used, classic brass, ideally integrates visually into the wood tones.

The JUNG Quick Charge function in the SCHUKO® socket with USB charger provides electric power of up to 18 watt. Mobile end devices and batteries can be charged quickly and reliably. The SCHUKO® socket with USB charger meets the highest standards and is VDE certified.

The Smart Visu Server is installed out of sight and is used in the network for visualisation and operation of the KNX system. In this way, everything can be operated completely conveniently with a tablet or smartphone.
A KNX CO2 multi-sensor can measure the CO2 concentration, atmospheric humidity and temperature and switch on a fan or extractor hood.

The leak sensor on the kitchen cabinet can warn of water running out under the basin or washing machine. It is simply connected to the integrated push-button interface of the KNX CO2 multi-sensor. A KNX push-button interface 2-gang or a KNX push-button interface 4-gang can also be used.

The operation of the lighting above the kitchen island and in the space towards the dining area uses two rockers of the KNX push-button module Universal 4-gang and the appropriate cover kit 4-gang. There are an additional two buttons available for scenes such as "Living" or "Cooking". As a central function, all blinds in the living room and dining room can be operated together at this point.

Dining area
With the KNX compact room controller module, the temperature in the living and dining areas is recorded and controlled within the defined parameters. As the open living area has a large surface area, another KNX push-button module Universal can be set up as an external temperature sensor. The actual value is then calculated from the two temperature values measured. The two rockers can implement other functions, such as switching, dimming, value transmitter or calling scenes. While the compact room controller is positioned at a height where it can easily be read, the push-button modules are arranged at the typical height for hand operation.

With the KNX push-button module Universal, the lighting over the dining table can be operated as well as in the area towards the hallway. The chosen operating concept provides a scene call on the left button. On the right side, the blinds in the dining room are operated.

Bedroom
The KNX compact room controller module is used for temperature control in the bedroom. The room controller display module has heating and cooling functions. An additional level can also be set. The base and additional levels can be allocated different regulation algorithms.

The KNX weather station home, for example on the roof of the building, can be used to initiate sun protection. In this way, heating up of rooms due to the sun shining in too strongly is prevented. With the KNX weather station home, the measurement and evaluation of weather data such as wind speed, precipitation, twilight, temperature and brightness can be undertaken in all directions.

Operating the suspended lighting and the indirect lighting in the sides of the bed, calling of two scenes, such as "Reading" or "TV", and operation of the blind is implemented with the KNX push-button module Universal. With the clear labelling, all functions can be quickly and easily recognised. The rockers and buttons of the KNX push-button module Universal are allocated identically to the one at the room door. This enables simple operation.

The use of the SCHUKO® socket with USB charger saves space during installation and still allows simultaneous use of various devices. Here, a deep wall box must be provided. With a charging current of up to 3 ampere, all devices attached via USB are charged quickly and reliably.

Master bathroom
The KNX compact room controller display module has an LCD display and can, for example, display the set/actual temperature. The display has buttons arranged on the left and right that, for example, can be used for changing the set temperature. The changed temperature value can be temporarily shown on the display. With the two remaining rockers, further functions, such as switching, dimming, value transmitters or calling scenes can be implemented.

The KNX push-button module Universal 2-gang is intended for the independent operation of the ceiling light and the mirror light. In this way, the left centre plate is used for dimming and the right for switching.

When using push-button modules, a suitable operating philosophy should be used. For example, always use the left centre plate for operating the main lighting in all rooms. In this way, when entering a room, the main lighting can be switched on intuitively without reading the labelling. To be able to charge all electrical loads flexibly, one each of a SCHUKO® socket with USB charger type A and a SCHUKO® socket with USB charger type C are provided. Both sockets have integrated charging electronics and allow the charging of USB devices while, for example, a hair dryer is being used. The JUNG Quick Charge function adapts the charging voltage to the electrical load. SCHUKO® sockets with USB charger types A+C as well as a USB charger with screwless design cover or hinged lid are also available.

Naturally, if requested, sockets from other systems, such as French/Belgian or the Swiss system, can also be installed. When using a hinged lid, in many designs protection level IP44 is also available.

Guest WC
The eNet radio transmitter module 2-gang is intended for the independent operation of the ceiling light and the mirror light. The left centre plate on the cover kit 2-gang is used for dimming and the right for switching. When using wall transmitter modules, a suitable operating philosophy should be used. For example, the left upper centre plate can always be used for operating the main lighting in all rooms. In this way, when entering a room, the main lighting can be switched on intuitively without reading the labelling.

Hallway
With the video indoor station and the video module, it is easy to see who is visiting. This increases security and adds convenience. Using the push-button module Standard or the push-button module Universal, various functions can be operated. As well as taking door calls, operating the door release or switching off the bell, there are more functions available.

With the KNX push-button module Universal 2-gang, on the side towards the door the main lighting can be switched on or off or dimmed. On the right side, the possibility is provided to call two scenes, e.g. "Present" or "Absent". Scenes provide the advantage of implementing multiple states with one operation. In this way, for example, with "Present" all the blinds go up, the desired welcome lighting switched on dimmed and the room temperature is increased by two degrees. The cover kit 2-gang can be individually labelled with the desired scene symbols. The KNX push-button module Universal at the bathroom door has the identical operation on the left side as its counterpart next to the apartment door. With the right-hand surface, scenes such as "Night" can be called. With this, specific dimmed lighting moods can be called.

The SCHUKO® socket with integrated LED floor pilot light and enhanced contact protection can be used as a cleaner's socket. The brightness sensor switches the LED floor pilot light on at twilight so that orientation is possible even in windowless rooms in darkness.

The control units for the guest WC and at the bedroom door have been implemented identically to the module at the bathroom door.
General
The bedrooms and the routes to the living areas are monitored with smoke alarm devices. The use of smoke alarm devices in the living room or other living spaces is not a requirement, but it is strongly recommended due to the accumulation of electrical devices and possibly the use of candles.

With the SCHUKO® sockets, the use of "Safety Plus" should be obligatory. This shutter is integrated inconspicuously in the centre plate and offers secure protection.

In this apartment, an installation with decentralised KNX actuators was consciously chosen. The devices can be attached on the profile rail in the distribution box in the hallway. The compact design of, for example, the KNX switch actuator 16-gang, where 16 independent 16-ampere relays are available in only eight rail units, proves extremely space-saving. For large applications, aKNX switch actuator 24-gang is also available. For dimming the various luminaires, depending on the type of light both a KNX DALI gateway TW or also a KNX LED dimming actuator Universal 4-gang can be used. If large loads are being dimmed, the KNX LED dimming actuator 1-gang can be used. Depending on load, the output channels of the KNX LED dimming actuator Universal 4-gang can be switched together. All devices in the above-mentioned product lines can be operated manually and have one feedback function per channel.

A KNX power supply with IP interface provides both the electrical power for the KNX technology as well as the connection to the network technology in a small space.

The KNX motor-operated valve drive in the heating circuit distributor fits onto the valve bases of popular manufacturers or is installed with a suitable adapter. In addition, it has an integrated room thermostat and works particularly quietly. With the valve protection function and the mechanical display of the valve lift, it offers control and safety functions.

The Smart Visu Server serves two important areas. The graphical interface can be defined and set up with SV Control. It is operated with SV Home. With user management, the various users can be allocated individual rights. Integrated in the local IP network, it serves the complete web visualisation of the KNX system. The residents can read the status, operate the system and set completely individual timer switches for each actuator channel. In addition, systems from Philips Hue and Sonos, for example, can be integrated. The integration of the Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant voice services and the secure remote access are likewise possible via the MyJUNG account.
