Penthouse apartment M6, Munich | Germany
In the course of the conversation and renovation of an apartment building built in 1896 in the Munich district of Haidhausen, the architect Stuart Stadler comprehensively modernised all the apartments in the building and brought them up to modern standards. The centrepiece of the renovation was an innovative loft extension.
The planning challenge was above all to retain the character of the historical building. All floor plans in the building were designed more generously, corridors removed and multiple rooms combined into extensive living areas. The whole building was brought up to the most modern technical standards. A central heating system connected to a district heating system now provides CO2-neutral heating. The electrics were completely renewed and an air conditioning system installed in the loft apartment. A lift installed during the renovations now makes the building accessible.
The existing roof was dismantled and replaced with a two-storey Mansard roof design under which a maisonette is hidden. On the street-facing side, a metal sloping roof characterises the overall appearance, on the courtyard side, the building is opened up with balconies and a generous roof terrace. The design elements in solid wood were prefabricated by a carpentry firm and precisely fitted into the existing building to minimise the building time.
The new loft apartment impresses with its panorama windows and roof terraces with rooms flooded with light, as well as the beautiful views over the city. The interior design is luxurious and high-quality. Particular importance was given to selected materials such as solid oiled wooden floorboards and custom-made sanitaryware. A sophisticated lighting concept with designer lighting provides atmospheric accents. For the electrical installation, the LS 990 range from JUNG in stainless steel was chosen with matching elegant LS 1912 toggle switches, likewise in stainless steel finish. The LS 1912 range is reminiscent in its form of historical toggle switches, but the internal functional parts correspond to the latest state of technology. The electrical installation becomes smart in combination with the JUNG LB-room thermostat, here in the elegant version with black display and stainless steel frames. The LB Management system for controlling light and shade is ideal for the integration of intelligent individual components during modernisations. With the room thermostat, temperature control can be carried out either manually or automatically and timer controlled. The selection of the electrical equipment corresponds ideally to the goal of the renovation, creating a symbiosis of old and new. LS 1912 packages up-to-date technology in a retro look, LB Management enables a gradual transition to smart solutions.
"It was our goal to retain the soul of the original building while at the same time offering modern living convenience", summarises the planner. "The result is a unique living experience that combines tradition and the future."

LS 990 in Stainless Steel
A prestigious interior derives its appeal from exclusive effects. The design switches in high-grade metal versions satisfy this standard outstandingly well. Cool stainless steel, aluminium or attractive anthracite, chrome or precious gold plating – they lend a special touch wherever the emphasis is on the extra-special. Two variations of genuine brass complement the portfolio: Classic with a bright, softly polished finish, antique suitable for traditional interiors.
LS 1912 in stainless steel
Based on the JUNG switch of the early years, the LS 1912 rocker switch turns the switching mechanics into a new experience. The switch mechanism is designed so that the cover closes flush with the frame. Only the rocker lever rises out of the unit as style element. JUNG transfers the many years of experience in metalworking into an elegant selection of materials – from aluminium, via stainless steel and brass to chrome.
