Polo House, Bangkok | Thailand

The Polo House, situated in Bangkok’s Central Business District, is a residential building that deliberately sets itself apart from the dynamism of its urban surroundings. Surrounded by mature trees, the design creates a tranquil, timeless living atmosphere in which the choice of materials, light and carefully proportioned fixtures and fittings shape the spatial experience.

The starting point for the design was a set of original teak furniture from the mid-20th century, which was discovered during the renovation. Rather than replacing it, the interior designers drew on its materiality and character to develop the design theme for the entire house. Bespoke teak fittings define the living areas, providing storage whilst also offering space for books, art and personal belongings. This creates calm wall surfaces that lend the rooms depth and character. The minimalist material palette focuses on warm wooden surfaces, natural stone and understated colours. In the living area, built-in furniture, textiles and natural light combine to form a harmonious overall composition. This concept is consistently carried through in the kitchen and bathrooms: dark travertine, monolithic washbasins and precisely executed details emphasise the high-quality aesthetic. Daylight streaming in through existing glass blocks and generous window openings allows the interior and exterior spaces to merge, integrating the lush vegetation into the living experience. The LS 990 in matt graphite black was chosen as the switch series, consistently continuing the calm design of the house.
