Focus Hangzhou apartment complex, Hangzhou | China

The new Focus Hangzhou apartment complex in the millions-strong Chinese city of Hangzhou includes an area of nearly 340,000 m². Completion of the total of five towers on the river bank is planned by 2022. The development is then intended to become a symbol and business card of the city during the Olympic Games. The architecture is from AEDAS. Jin Yongjie, chief interior designer of the Design Institute of Landscape & Architecture at the China Academy of Art (CAADI) is in turn responsible for the interior design, while the SWA Group has been commissioned with the design of the external areas. After completion, the five tower blocks shaped like sails in the wind will then shine brightly every evening and also make Focus Hangzhou a landmark in the evening hours as well. The Brandston Partnership Inc. is responsible for the appropriate light planning.

The connection of the project to the Olympics didn’t just happen. In the south, the property is immediately adjacent to the Olympic Sports Expo Center. The river to the west, on the other hand, inspired the appearance of the architecture. Dr. Zixian Wen, Global Design Director at AEDAS, took inspiration from the traditional Chinese sailing ships that populate the river. At the same time, the design stands symbolically for a “wave of prosperity”. The common base holds shopping and leisure possibilities and is itself formed like the hull of a ship breaking through the waves. The buildings are covered in light, silver-grey aluminium panels and glass curtain walls. The topic of water will also show up in the future in the lighting of the apartment complex. Special lighting is planned to give the effect of sparkling waves playing on the façades.

The foyers of the residential towers and the show apartments already finished are designed in a luxurious and elegant style. In the style of the interior design, all apartments have been equipped with switches, push-buttons and sockets from the JUNG LS 990 range in brass, antique brass and aluminium dark. In turn, for implementing the smart control in the rooms, the JUNG KNX system is installed.
