Park Kneževa Residential Block, Zagreb | Croatia

With the Park Kneževa Residential Block, 3LHD Architects are transforming the former industrial site of the Nada Dimić and Penkala factories in the centre of Zagreb into a contemporary residential neighbourhood. The block creates a new pedestrian link between Branimirova and Bornina Street, combining residential and commercial use with integrated open space within the dense urban environment, thereby becoming a new green oasis:

An urban park, dense planting and green roofs form a continuous green space. A structure approximately 50 metres long, covered in climbing plants, visually frames the site and creates an ecologically effective filter between the street and the inner courtyard. A timber-framed nursery, an innovative playground and the energy-efficient refurbishment of neighbouring buildings complement the range of facilities and reinforce the sustainable approach.

Inside, high-quality materials and murals by Croatian artists characterise the lobby areas, corridors and communal spaces. These are heated and cooled all year round. In the luxury flats and commercial premises, the KNX-based JUNG smart home system controls the lighting, shading, ventilation, heating and cooling. The LS 990 KNX F 10 switch series, available in aluminium and anthracite, echoes the understated architectural style with its clean lines and authentic material finishes, ensuring a harmonious interplay between design and building services. The project’s quality is underlined by its win of the International Property Award 2023 in the Mixed-Use Architecture and Residential Development 20+ Units categories.
