Hotel Ruby Mimi, Zurich | Switzerland

In Haus Du Pont on Beatenplatz in Zurich, there is a great deal of the city's history: built in 1913, it was the first new cinema building in the city of Zurich. For over a hundred years, it has housed the ABC cinema and a movie restaurant. The architectural practice and interior designer monoplan made this theme its own and implemented the conversion of the listed art déco building into a hotel under the Hollywood motto of glitz and glamour.

The 208 rooms are distributed over seven floors with a total area of 8,400 square metres. During the course of the conversion, the building whose load-bearing structure, staircases, facades and roof structures are largely listed, was completely renovated. In the interior, the Ruby Design guidelines were implemented with due respect for the history of the building. For an elegant, simple and representative appearance, classic features such as wraparound wall friezes, structured wall finishes, terrazo flooring and seating areas were used to give character to the entrance area. The extraordinary architecture of the building can already be seen when entering the foyer, which serves as a divider between the hotel and restaurant. The focus is the Mimi Bar with its impressive ceiling heights. Luxurious materials and hand-picked antiquities skilfully open up a dialogue with modern style elements. A neon sign with the words "Stars are born, not made" in oversize writing - and a wink - lights up the wall. A further highlight is the hotel's charming cinema auditorium - a reminder of the history of the building. Comfortable armchairs, red velvet curtains and a popcorn machine provide a real cinema feeling as in the old days of Hollywood.

The hotel rooms also reflect Ruby's lean luxury philosophy: fresh radiant white, glass rain showers integrated in the room as well as high-quality white oak floors and wooden wall panelling skilfully blend in with the historical charm of the building. In many rooms, there are also large, round windows, lovingly restored open wooden beams and old, natural brick walls. The classic LS 990 switch in white is also subordinate to the design language and directs the view to the essential.

Thanks to its high quality and clear shape, the LS 990 switch range has already proved its worth for about 50 years. The classic form of this switch with its narrow frame fits harmoniously into any surroundings. Purist elegance in thermosetting plastic or genuine metal lend this series a touch of class. A wide variety of applications are possible thanks to the wide functional spectrum. Thus, architecturally demanding visions can be consistently put into practice. The single to fivefold frames can be fitted horizontally or vertically.
