In Sa Pobla, a small town on Mallorca, the young architect's firm NØRA studio has created a house that formulates a clear attitude with few, precise means.
On a narrow, extended plot, the house covers two zones: an open main space, that stretches from the road to the garden, and a narrower, functionally compact sequence of rooms. This service-room zone provides the building with all necessary functions and makes it possible to leave the main room empty as a transformable area between public view and privacy. The floor plan has been extended with a southern gallery. This protects the house from direct sunlight and at the same time works as a thermal buffer. In the winter it stores solar energy and supports the natural ventilation in the summer with the stack effect. The choice of materials follows the logic of the concept: load-bearing elements in unplastered Thermoton provide thermal mass and expressiveness at the same time. Exposed concrete, wood and ceramic surfaces complement the reduced palette. In this restrained environment, the switches from the LS CUBE design range in white from JUNG integrate naturally. As a surface-mounted solution with clear geometry, LS CUBE unifies functionality and design presence, and seamlessly adapts to the robustly honest material range of the house.
