JUNG UNIQUE by GRAFT

The urban switch collection JUNG UNIQUE by GRAFT is an ode to urban life, to Berlin and to individuality. Originally designed for GRAFT's new headquarters, the JUNG UNIQUE collection designed by GRAFT can now also be used to make statements elsewhere – for urbanists and urbanauts, and for individualists and street-art fans. For all those for whom "normal" is not enough. With JUNG UNIQUE, switches and buttons become individual communication elements in the room.

In recent decades, urban art, originally understood as a form of protest, has become socially acceptable. Graffiti and street art have developed into a valued and friendly way of appropriating public space not only in international metropolises. Urban spaces want to be "used". They must offer people the opportunity to appropriate them and to fill the spaces with life. Graffiti and street art, posters and messages, and traces and imprints are all signs of identification and colourful urban life. Hardly any other architectural firm embodies urban nonchalance and coolness as gallantly as GRAFT. The studio for "architecture, urban planning, design, music and the pursuit of happiness" – as they describe themselves – is internationally known for its creative and experimental architectural designs. GRAFT is not afraid to push boundaries and explore new paths in architecture. This often leads to unique and unconventional building concepts – and also to its own hip switch collection with JUNG, which now brings urban art elements from the street into interiors as a statement. "Used and new, ugly and beautiful, ironic and serious – we wanted to explore the ambiguity of aesthetic perception and what is perceived as beautiful. We were attracted by the aesthetics of the everyday, of those things that we might experience in passing, without seeing their potential", says the GRAFT team, explaining the unusual design approach for the JUNG UNIQUE collection by GRAFT.

Kreuzberg, Wedding, Friedrichshain, Schöneberg, Mitte and Grunewald: The designs of the JUNG UNIQUE collection by GRAFT proudly bear the names of Berlin's districts. Berlin aficionados will immediately recognise the design criteria that are characteristic of the districts: print messages in Mitte, street art tags in Kreuzberg, graffiti in Friedrichshain. In Schöneberg, the Urban Nation Museum for Contemporary Art by GRAFT is "hidden" in a bourgeois old building; in Wedding, the residents leave their fingerprints; in the green district of Grunewald, there are sculptural villas. However, the design names fade into the background with a subtle wink: The JUNG UNIQUE by GRAFT switch collection also works in an office in Cologne or an apartment in Stuttgart. This is because the actual intention is different: "We feel a great affinity with urban street art and its bold and subversive power. When we realized the Urban Nation Museum in Berlin, the first German museum for this art form, we focused intensively on the question of how it can be exhibited without being museumized and how it can continue to enter into new symbioses with architecture. The switch collection for JUNG goes one step further: The traces on it are unambiguous facsimiles, artificial replicas of the original. Is it an ironic comment or a serious appreciation? The answer lies somewhere between the WW2 graffiti preserved behind glass in the Reichstag and the freshly written tags in the subway", say the designers. 

The JUNG UNIQUE collection by GRAFT makes a statement as regards appropriation – a little provocative, a little cheeky and definitely loud. Who knows whether the inkblots on the Friedrichshain model won't be cleaned just as rigorously in some places as Beuys' butter once was?

Create your own design: The JUNG UNIQUE platform gives designers the opportunity to individualize the control elements in their buildings and to use them as an additional level of communication – not only within the framework of predefined design parameters, but also freely in terms of colour, font, design and content. JUNG UNIQUE is a tool for project-related one-off production. With the tool, JUNG allows designers to have full control over the design, including the series, the surface and colour programme, and the insertion of symbols, images and texts – as vector or pixel files, which are applied onto switches, sockets or buttons by colour printing or laser engraving. JUNG UNIQUE stands for better orientation, optimal integration into the interior design, smarter users, a subtle wink and individuality. JUNG looks forward to many new ideas!
