Khoo Teck Puat Hospital | Singapore
Recovery for body and spirit
The Alexandra Hospital in Singapore, founded in 1938, was long considered to be one of the most modern hospitals in South-east Asia. At the end of the 20th century, wishes for modernisation and a contemporary architectural design became louder. These wishes were fulfilled by the internationally active RMJM firm of architects. They designed a new “healing architecture” for this prestigious hospital with the support of CPG Consultants. The new Khoo Teck Puat Hospital is efficient in terms of energy and personnel, has a clear focus on the well-being of its patients and does justice to the historic heritage of the Alexandra Hospital.
The Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH) provides general and emergency care for around 550,000 residents from the north of Singapore and has almost 800 beds. As well as its high medical standards, the KTPH focuses on a healing environment. This is based on a biophilic design that harnesses and extends the natural advantages of its location. The idea was to create a “garden hospital”. This was realised through green garden scenery, terraces and vertical greenery on the buildings as well as a harmonious water landscape. The Yishun Pond is the central element of the grounds, with paths and small pavilions bordering its banks. The green elements of the KTPH generate relaxation and well-being for patients and personnel. At the same time they ensure an improved air quality for the whole area.
This “green thread” extends into the interior of the KTPH. It complements the bright, modern interior of this health complex. Passages graced with greenery link the different wings to each other. The patients’ rooms are located on the upper floors and benefit from natural light. The lower floor is reserved for vitally important facilities such as surgery and triage. It has protection against explosion and is technically state-of-the-art. The ambulance and emergency areas are also equipped for civil emergencies and include decontamination and quarantine areas.
The Khoo Teck Puat Hospital is equipped with the KNX system from JUNG. This intelligent building system technology enables a combination of many different functions to be operated centrally for greater economy, safety, security and convenience. The LS 990 design in white was chosen for the entire building complex.

LS 990 in white
Thanks to its high quality and clear shape, the LS 990 switch range has already proved its worth for about 50 years. The classic form of this switch with its narrow frame fits harmoniously into any surroundings. Purist elegance in thermosetting plastic or genuine metal lend this series a touch of class. A wide variety of applications are possible thanks to the wide functional spectrum. Thus, architecturally demanding visions can be consistently put into practice. The single to fivefold frames can be fitted horizontally or vertically.
