National Parc Centre, Baiersbronn | Germany
The visitor and information centre for the Black Forest national park is situated at around 900 metres in Ruhestein in the parish of Seebach in the northern Black Forest. The architecture is the responsibility of Sturm & Wartzeck architects in Dipperz, who were successful in mid 2015 in a two-stage competition against 160 competitors. After the official handover in October 2020, the building was opened to the public in June 2021 after six years of planning and building.
Formally, the design by Jörg Sturm and Susanne Wartzeck is reminiscent of felled trees lying chaotically over each other, which creates a neat link to the surrounding forest landscape. This image is strengthened further by the façades covered in wood shingles, which practically gives the centre a kind of natural bark structure. The architecture skilfully succeeds with the integration into the landscape. Inside, the building contains a large, inviting foyer, a sun terrace, a cafe, a cinema as well as permanent and temporary exhibitions in around 3,000 m². The main attraction, though, is the "Brigde of wilderniss" extending 35 metres high into the crown of the adjoining forest and thus giving the visitors a direct impression of the natural world and landscape of the northern Black Forest. Training and presentation rooms and administrative offices round off the range of rooms.
Switches, push-buttons and sockets from the JUNG LS 990 range in white are installed throughout the building. Due to its unfussy form and the restrained colours, this range fits discreetly into the architecture. The elements of the electrical installation impress as a result both on the wood and plaster surfaces of the building. In the background, a complex smart-building system is installed that is operated using central displays from the Smart Control range from JUNG. In the individual rooms, F 50 push-buttons in turn provide simple operation of the room functions with large labelling areas.
