BUILDING THE FUTURE | Innovative and sustainable educational buildings
In 2026, the JUNG Architecture Talks are celebrating their 20th anniversary. Building networks, gaining insights, being inspired, and engaging in professional dialogue in a relaxed atmosphere – this is what our format continues to stand for.

On 12 February, the JUNG Architecture Talks will take place in Hannover for the fourth time. In close cooperation with the Lower Saxony branch of the BDA – Bund Deutscher Architektinnen und Architekten, we invite you to an evening under the theme Building the Future in the Calder Hall at the Sprengel Museum. Together with our guests, we will discuss what the educational buildings of the future might look like. What are innovative and sustainable architectural concepts for kindergartens and schools?

Look forward to keynote talks, including one by Christopher Frett from Bruncken Frett Architekten in Cologne. In addition to planning and implementing contemporary educational buildings, his office has specialised in consultancy and service offerings centred on school construction. What role does “Phase 0” play in this context? Karin Meid-Bächle from bächlemeid architekten in Constance will present her award-winning project: a combined fire station and daycare centre in Waldshut. We are curious to explore the opportunities and challenges that arise from bringing together two such different building typologies. Last but not least, we are delighted to welcome Anna Popelka and Georg Poduschka from PPAG architects in Vienna to the panel. With their pioneering new school building on Berlin’s Allee der Kosmonauten, they have been shortlisted for the DAM Prize 2026. We are eager to learn more about the concept behind the “Compartment School” model.

We are also pleased to welcome Tatjana Sabljo, Chair of the BDA Lower Saxony regional association, to the panel discussion following the presentations. The evening will be moderated by Dr Thomas Welter, Federal Director of the BDA.

ANNA POPELKA &
GEORG PODUSCHKA

PPAG ARCHITECTS, VIENNA (AT)
PPAG consists of Anna Popelka, Georg Poduschka and their team, with offices in Vienna and Berlin. Since its founding in 1995, the practice has been continuously engaged in the field of architectural research and development in the broadest sense, always with the ambition of putting innovation into practice. Their work centres on the ongoing articulation of what is socially relevant and necessarily new in architecture.

"School construction over the past 15 years can serve as a role model for the necessary new: when everyday school life changes completely due to all-day schooling, new teaching methods, and revised educational goals, the school inevitably looks different. May the architecture of the climate transition achieve the same inspiring breakthrough!"

KARIN MEID-BÄCHLE

BÄCHLEMEID ARCHITEKTEN, CONSTANCE
Karin Meid-Bächle (born in 1958) studied architecture at the University of Applied Sciences in Constance, graduating with a diploma in 1988. Between 1986 and 1991, she worked in the architecture offices of Willi Egli in Zurich and Fritz Hack in Friedrichshafen. In 1991, she became a partner in the architecture office Linie 4 in Constance; from 2001 in partnership with Martin Bächle. In 2014, she and Martin Bächle founded the architecture office bächlemeid in Constance; since 2024, Julian Bächle joined them as partner. She is active as a guest critic at universities, a member of design advisory boards in various cities, and serves as a jury member in architectural competitions.

“The buildings and designs by Karin Meid-Bächle, Martin Bächle and Julian Bächle stand for an architecture of precise harmony. Their projects are shaped by subtle site analysis, a contemporary interpretation of existing structures, and the search for an original architectural approach tailored to each task. The result is distinctive architecture that adds new qualities to both urban and rural spaces.”

CHRISTOPHER FRETT

BRUNCKEN FRETT ARCHITEKTEN, COLOGNE
Christopher Frett is co-founder of Bruncken Frett Architekten BDA in Cologne. After completing a bachelor’s degree in forest sciences and ecology, he studied architecture and worked in offices in the USA, Austria and Germany. His particular interest lies in the interaction between the built environment and social space – an interplay that becomes especially condensed in educational settings.

“For me, architecture is a social practice. People are at the centre – as the starting point, the path, and the goal. Diversity, adaptability, and collaboration shape my approach. I see design as a space for exchange, where ideas grow and the future is created together.”
