Our responsibility to the environment

Climate protection and resource conservation are some of the greatest challenges of our time. At JUNG, sustainability has been part of our philosophy from the start. From its concept of sustaining, or in other words, continually existing, we act responsibly towards the environment as manufacturers by building robust, long-lasting and sustainably produced components. It is paramount for us to view the process of production and usage with a long-term perspective, and we strive to continue to do as we have in the past century.
JUNG publishes first sustainability report
JUNG has been thinking and acting sustainably since the company was founded in 1912. We take responsibility for our employees, for our environment and for future generations. Our first sustainability report shows how JUNG implemented its sustainability strategy in 2021/2022 and defines targets against which we can continue to be measured in the future.

Switches and sockets in recyclate

In production we have relied on recycled plastic for many years. The A CREATION, A 550, A CUBE and A FLOW switch ranges in matt anthracite already consist of 95 % resource-saving recyclate. In this way, we contribute to reducing the environmental burden of plastic waste.
Push-button in programme A 550 made of plastic in matt anthracite, half covered in black recycled material and the logo for 95% recycled material in white.
The recyclate is a material that is obtained from preparing and recycling plastic waste. In the recycling process, residues are collected, sorted, cleaned and then mechanically broken up. This material is then melted and processed in an extrusion process (press method) into recyclate, as described in DIN ISO 14021.
Plastic design covers and design frames in 95 % recyclate in accordance with DIN EN ISO 14021 are sustainable and resource-saving. For the manufacturing process, hydroelectric energy is used in order to consistently produce sustainably. The frames, light switches, push-buttons, rotary dimmers and sockets produced in this way cover a large range of use possibilities. With these products, it is possible to implement a resource-saving electrical installation. After the Cradle-to-Cradle certification of various switch ranges and KNX components, these ranges in recyclate are a further consistent step towards promoting a circular economy.

Creating solutions

Continuous research and development
Production is developing continuously in accordance with the zeitgeist and technological developments. We see it as our responsibility to not only adhere to this, but to also positively influence it, which is why we have been investing in research and development for decades. In our product development process, we have focused on creating durable devices for efficient building technology and integrating new technologies into JUNG systems with the goal of optimising the energy-saving potential.

For example, in addition to convenient ways of controlling light and air-conditioning, our smart home technology also provides great potential for effectively reducing energy requirements and CO2 emissions. To us, it is not only about creating the perfect building parameters, but also promoting the correct handling of the systems with use-oriented building technology. We consider it our task to develop systems, products and solutions that not only meet technical demands, but also the growing calls for sustainability to protect our future.
Resource-optimised products
Our solutions and systems need to be both durable and have a resource and environmentally-friendly production process. An example of this is the development of plug-in components for serial rooms with uniform equipment, such as those found in hotels, offices or public housing, with our plug + go configurator. The saving potential of plug + go is enormous: 70% shorter cable lengths and 50% less copper consumption are two of the many positive aspects of this solution.
Logistics of short distances
Due to exclusive production in Germany, we rely on the principle of short distances and environmentally friendly procurement and logistics process. We have a regional network of specialised suppliers and Germany-wide storage with representatives. Completely automated order picking, material-saving packaging and optimised logistics ensure that the goods are at the right place at the right time and noticeably reduce the volume of transport and the number of shipments.
Energy-efficient production
We continuously invest in the energy efficiency of our production facilities and buildings. Alongside a modern combined heat and power plant for economic production of heat and electricity, daylight-dependent brightness regulation, energy-saving LED lighting technology with DALI makes it possible to optimise our energy consumption. An in-house energy monitoring system and regular energy audits carried out by independent experts reveal further potential savings, which are continuously implemented.
Intelligent packaging management
A large proportion of our packaging uses recycled waste-paper, and 100% of this can be recycled. Our packaging is, where possible, wrapped and only glued in positions that are subject to particular loads. Intelligent packaging management makes it possible to optimally load cartons and pallets with different pack sizes and avoid filling materials and additional packaging. JUNG also use Interseroh and Resy return systems in our production in Germany.

Using knowledge, sharing experiences

We are involved in various committees and universities in Germany to promote future-oriented product development.
DGNB - network for sustainable building
We have been a member of Deutsche Gesellschaft für Nachhaltiges Bauen (DGNB), which is the German Sustainable Building Council, since January 2009. With our expertise in all aspects of modern building control, we actively participate in the various committees of the DGNB. Together with other manufacturers, architects and planners, we contribute to the development and implementation of sustainable building culture in Germany.
Innovative through research
Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft e.V. is one of the largest private promoters of education, science and innovation in Germany. With the "Innovative through Research" seal, it acknowledges the special responsibility that research-driven companies assume for the state and society.
