Hotel Bienvenir, Madrid | Spain

The interdisciplinary creative studio WANNA remodelled a historic apartment building on the Gran Vía in Madrid into an extravagant 4-star superior hotel. Alongside the interior design, the designer was also commissioned for the development of the complete hotel branding: from the equipment and storytelling to the corporate design, a location was created that is completely dedicated to the needs of a new generation of travellers.

The Hotel Bienvenir is in a building from the 1930s, originally designed by the architects Vicente García Cabrera and Jesús Carrasco Muñoz. Over the years the apartment block became a guesthouse until it was bought by an investment group in 2019. On their behalf, the planners from WANNA developed a new look for the hotel, that links art-deco elements and a reduced modern interior design with each other in a very individual manner. In accordance with its name, "Bienvenir", the new hotel concept deals with the arrival: everyone should feel accepted and welcome. The architecture of the lobby, lounge and the 45 guest rooms is intended to convey closeness, friendliness and community. This is supported with friendly wall graphics with Spanish sayings about travel as well as cheerful colour accents. Colour tunnel effects in blue support the orientation of the guests. The colours pink and mango were chosen for the rooms and the common areas such as the lobby or the breakfast area.

As well as the colours, the furniture, materials, decorative accessories and light fittings are characterised by geometric shapes, which run through the design concept as a universal language like a common thread. The lounge on the first floor is structured using semi-circular fixtures like booths that give the individual seating groups some privacy. Coloured flooring, ceiling cutouts and wall elements strengthen the zoning additionally. The individual rooms are likewise designed in the pink-mango colour selection and provided with special fitted furniture. The JUNG LS 990 switches and sockets integrate ideally into this explosion of colours and shapes - sometimes on plaster walls, sometimes on marble wall panelling. They make a statement with their simple shape without contrasting with the special existing art-deco elements or the conspicuously new colour accents and shapes.
