Private living in light colours, Vilnius | Lithuania
In the old centre of Vilnius, the plan was to create a small but cosy and modern apartment with just 48 m² on two levels instead of a classic hotel room. Large structural changes were not possible in this apartment. As a result, the interior designer Elžbieta Skunčikienė relied on design, light scenarios and solutions for a convenient daily life in the apartment dominated by light colours. Because the situation of the apartment under the roof only allowed rooflights for illumination.
The division of the functional areas in this home quickly became clear: only the living room was modelled in various versions. Only the kitchen was added, which had not previously existed in this space. In order to provide the living space with a generous feel, the furniture was organically formed. Machined furniture fronts and glass give the interior the impression of lightness. Repeating, open elements in lamps and other details unify the objects. The laconic furniture design does not burden the interior and creates a relaxing, non-committal mood. A further motif that repeats in various elements in the design is the arch shape. It was inspired by the stairway door, which was already in the building. The interior designer used it repeatedly in the design of the wall unit, the door to the bathroom and the bathroom furniture.
The positioning of the bathroom on the gallery level is unusual. But the spatial arrangement to the bedroom and wardrobe was the decisive factor. Bathroom tiles the colour of the sky in combination with bleached oak veneer harmoniously fulfil the function and give the interior nobility and luxury. The available space on the gallery even allows a workspace, which is obligatory in every home after the pandemic. The switches and sockets of the A 550 range from JUNG in white fit unobtrusively into the peace and constancy of the interior design.
