Renovation of a country house, Heemstede | The Netherlands

The interior designer Juliëtte van der Hulst from DE JUUL Interieurarchitectuur awoke a historic country house to new life in Heemstede in the Netherlands that had fallen into disrepair. On the outside, the original state was largely restored and even window shutters and doors were reconstructed from old photos. Inside, on the other hand, a modern family home came into being that meets all the demands for contemporary and comfortable living. Without interfering too deeply in the existing ground plan, large glass doors and high ceilings were used to create an open and inviting ambience. Since then, the house has radiated new generosity.

Wide glass doors connect the individual living areas on the ground floor. The narrow corridor opens on the one side to the cloakroom and on the other to the living room. From here a further glass door leads to the other rooms on the ground floor – the kitchen, the home cinema and the guest bathroom. The heart of the new rooms is definitely the combined kitchen and living room. It is dominated by a spacious cooking island. A custom-made, built-in cupboard filling the wall and a fireplace lead from the kitchen to the dining area. Here, the wallpaper from Moooi with its splendid colours and shapes stands out, giving the room its own vibrancy.

The glass doors with their black steel frames that connect all the rooms were specially constructed unique items that characterise the whole style of the house. Different accents – such as the lighting solutions and the selected LS 990 switch and socket range from JUNG – support the concept that changes between vintage and industrial. The interior designer likes working with the range for the electrical installation because it is modern and timeless. For the country house in Heemstede she used the matt graphite black colour scheme. As a result, the switches and sockets perfectly suit the matt-black frames of the glass doors and thus subtly contribute to the harmonious overall picture of the fittings.
